Corner Jan. 2020

Dear Northern Hills’ Families,

Time does fly when you are having a great time! I certainly have enjoyed
working with your children. It is difficult to believe we are starting a new
semester and decade!!!

January Guidance Lessons are based on our differences. How boring it
would be if we were all the same! Each one of us are different and born
with special gifts that only we can offer to each other. This month I will be
talking about the emotions, worry and angry. I am going to be reading a
story about Catundra and how she handled teasing and learned with the
help of a special friend to love herself. This lesson allows me to teach the
importance of loyalty and integrity. I am also reading a book by Debbie
Allen, Dancing in the Wings. It illustrates how differences can be a true
asset and how we should be proud of who we are. Other books I will be
using are Wilma the Worry Machine, The Worry Tree, Wemberly Worried.
Books on anger will vary depending on grade level, such as Sometimes I’m
Bombaloo, When Sophie Gets Angry-Really, Really Angry…Emotions in
Motion….so many books and such little time! I visit with them about
triggers in their emotions. It is ok to have all of the different emotions, but
how we express these emotions is important.

The week after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I will be talking to 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th
graders about his life and dream. We will also discuss our how we can be
mindful and kind.

With Jack Frost nipping at our noses and ears, remember to bundle up
your children in warm coats, hats, mittens or gloves.

I am in the process of reviewing/updating my Calm Waters certification.
This will enable me to provide services for our students and staff on site.

Blessings for the New Year,
Tracy Hill, M. Ed.
